Participation

Youth Theatre

Open to 9-16 year olds who live in and around Hackney. We explore the different aspects of theatre making through playing games, working together as a team, exploring set design, lighting, sound, script writing, directing and performance skills. From these learnt skills the groups will create a performance in the summer term.

Queer Collective

East London’s performance collective for LGBTQIA+ people, exploring queer identity and how to present it theatrically. Past productions have included queer retellings of classical texts, work with new writers and devised performances.

Mental Health Collective

Arcola Mental Health Theatre Group aims to use theatre as a vehicle to tackle the stigma surrounding mental health. This inclusive and forward-thinking group explore how to stage issues theatrically, creating vital, engaging and thought-provoking shows. The group was created for those who are passionate about making a difference in their own lives and the lives of others, and through the presentation of their work, influence wider society’s perception of mental health.

Arcola Ala-Turka

Giving a theatrical voice to the Turkish and Kurdish communities of East London. The company perform Turkish language plays and Turkish translations of English texts.

Arcola Academy

Arcola Academy is Arcola Theatre’s training company for young people aged 16-25. Members explore all aspects of theatre making, from acting technique, devising, writing, technical theatre, costume and set design, the rehearsal process and performance. Guidance and support is offered on how to continue working in the theatre industry.

50+ Group

A space for East London residents over the age of 50 to explore theatre and performance. Past performances have included devised performances, site-specific performances, The Canterbury Tales, and work with scripts from Shakespeare to modern texts.
